Discover the Exact Model and Make of Your Ranger When Buying New Seat Covers

By Steven Harrisson, October 13, 2023

The Ford Ranger is one of Australia’s most popular 4x4s. It’s been in production since 1958 and has changed very little over the years, with Ford keeping to a traditional box-shaped design with high roof rails and a double cab option. The Ranger is available in three different engines: a 2.2-litre petrol engine, a 3.0-litre diesel and a 3.2-litre turbo-diesel. The petrol engine produces 118bhp while the other two options produce 140bhp and 235bhp respectively. The Ranger is a comfortable and practical vehicle, with plenty of space for passengers and their gear.
The Ranger has been on sale in Australia for decades. In fact, it’s one of the longest-running cars we’ve ever had Down Under – so long that many people don’t even know what model year theirs is! For that reason, many people have problems shopping for Ford Ranger parts, no matter whether they’re Ford Ranger seat covers, suspension parts or exhaust systems.
For that reason, I’ve put together this handy guide to help you find the right parts for your vehicle. Whether you own an old model or a brand new one, I’ll show you where to look and how to identify different year models so that you can be sure that your car is getting all the right components.

Year Model Identification: Ford Ranger Seats

Ford Ranger seats are comfortable and durable. They’re also surprisingly easy to replace yourself if you have the right tools and the right parts. In order to find the right Ford Ranger seat covers, you need to know what year your Ranger is. Here are some of the common model years and how they’re identified:

Ranger Regular Cab (1994-2004)

This is a very popular Ranger model! It’s got a double cab design with large windows on both sides of the vehicle, as well as a solid back panel instead of a window at the rear.
The front has two big headlights and a long bonnet that comes down low over the radiator. It’s got a black grille with twin headlights, and the front fenders are painted in body colour while the rest of the vehicle is silver. The back window has two small quarter windows on either side.
The doors are painted body colour, with black handles and window frames. Inside, there’s a wide variety of seat covers available for this model year. They’re usually made from cloth or vinyl in different colours and patterns to suit your taste.

Ranger Extra Cab (1994-2004)

It’s got the same basic shape as the regular cab but has an extended rear overhang that creates more room in the back. The extra cab also comes with two doors instead of one.
The front is similar to the regular cab but with two extra headlights and a different grille pattern. The back has a large glass window at the rear, as well as an extended tailgate that can be lowered when it’s open for easier loading and unloading. This model year also comes with a double cab option. It has four doors and more space inside than the other Ranger models. The extra cab seats are available in black or grey cloth with silver highlights, and the double cab seats are available in black or grey leather.

Ranger Double Cab (1994-2004)

The double-cab variation has a four-door extended cab with a low roof line and a big rear overhang that helps to accommodate more passengers and cargo. The double cab also has two extra doors on the side.
This model year comes in either red or white, which makes it stand out from other vehicles on the road. Inside, there’s plenty of room for passengers to stretch out and relax during long road trips. The double cab Ranger seat covers are available in black or grey leather with red or white piping, depending on the colour scheme you choose.

Ranger PX I, II, III and PJ/PK (1998-2004)

This is a very popular Ranger model that’s been on sale in Australia since 1997. It’s got a sleek, modern design with four doors and plenty of space inside. The PX II came out in 1999, featuring a new front grille and headlights as well as a redesigned rear end with a spoiler. The PX III was released in 2002 with more under the hood and improved brakes for safer driving performance.
The PJ/PK followed in 2004, adding a few more features such as air conditioning, front fog lights and cruise control. The biggest difference between the PJ/PK and other Ranger models is in the cabin: it has four doors instead of two! This means there’s plenty of room inside for passengers and their cargo.

Ranger PX III (2004-2010)

This model year was released in 2004 with lots of new features including improved brakes, larger wheels and better fuel efficiency. It also had an all-new look with a redesigned grille and headlights as well as an improved rear end. The PX III had larger side mirrors for better visibility when parking, and it also came with cruise control and air conditioning to make long journeys easier for everyone.
The new model had more under the hood too: it was powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged engine that gave excellent performance while still being environmentally friendly. Inside, there were four doors and lots of room for passengers to stretch out.
