Taking care of your facial skin is important to keep your skin soft and glowing. Regardless of whether you want to keep your dry skin well hydrated, you’re fighting annoying oily skin and acne, or you simply want to have a flawless complexion that glows, using the right products is essential.

But buying every expensive skincare product you can find on the market isn’t always a guarantee that you’re buying quality. As a matter of fact, experts always recommend getting rid of all those pricy skin products that tend to damage your skin even more. Your best is to embrace the various benefits that natural skincare products offer for your facial skin’s well being.

Here are some of the reasons why you should start using natural organic skincare products.

Source: interestingreality.com

Don’t Contain Harmful Chemicals

From bathing in milk and honey to using oatmeal, herbal remedies and lemon juice to diminish blemishes and bleach their skin, throughout history women have used only natural ingredients to care for their skin, as it was the only choice they had. However, these practices have shown to be very effective in nourishing and rejuvenating the skin, which is just one of the reasons for the great popularity of natural organic skincare products.

With the industrial revolution at the end of the 18th century, many manufacturers started promoting chemical skin products that offered an easy solution to many skin conditions, such as acne, dry or oily skin, wrinkles, etc. The truth about these products is that they’re chemically produced and contain many harmful ingredients, such as Parabens, Diethanolamine, Imidazolidinyl and Diazolidinyl urea, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and many mineral oils which tend to cause irritations, swellings, even allergic reactions to some sensitive skin complexions.

Source: medicalnewstoday.com/

On the other hand, natural face products are mostly based on cocoa and shea butter, tea tree, lavender, coconut oils, zinc oxide, etc. They are very powerful in what they do and are known to boost your skin’s health and give it that much-needed glow.

Promote Your Skin’s Health

The skin is a highly absorbent organ. After getting exposed to the various oxides of the city traffic, air pollution, dust and other harmful elements throughout the day, your skin has probably had enough of getting “poisoned” with synthetic chemical products and needs some rest as you do too.

Source: osfhealthcare.org/

On the other hand, the absorption process doesn’t stop by adding various allergens and irritants to our skin, since these toxic chemicals work their way to our bloodstreams and cause many health problems. Not only it’s 100% safer to ‘expose’ your skin to natural organic skincare ingredients such as flower and herb extracts, but they’re also intended to nourish your body. So, if you’re trying to lead a healthier life by creating healthy habits and eating more organic food, don’t forget to include natural skincare into your daily routine as well.

Organic Skincare Is Eco-Friendly

Besides being safe to use for us, organic skincare is good for the environment as well since no chemicals are used in their production.

The process of manufacturing chemical products is harmful to the environment as it involves the use of perfumes and chemical elements such as aluminium. These chemicals vaporize and return to the earth in form of rain, which seeps deep into the ground and affects the already fragile ecosystems around us. On the other hand, all those plastics that these manufacturers use are also harmful, since they end up on landfills, or in animals’ stomaches which is even worse.

Source: beauty-information-3.themedia.jp/

By buying these skincare products, not only you’re supporting these manufacturers on “their mission to destroy the environment”, but you’re becoming their accomplice too, since washing these products down your sink means helping them get “recycled” into our lakes, rivers and public water systems. Not only we end up consuming these waters on a daily basis, but they also harm the animals and livestock around, which can lead to some reproductive genetic changes and are one of the main causes of dangerous cancers.

Not Tested on Animals

We already learned that the process of manufacturing chemical skincare products leads to releasing harmful chemicals and plastics which is not uncommon to end up in animals’ organisms. What is even worse, these manufacturers often test their products on animals which eventually harm and even kill them.

These tests include eye and skin irritation tests which are performed by rubbing chemicals onto the animals’ shaved skin or dripping them into their eyes. They also include force-feeding them with chemicals to look for signs of birth defects and cancers, or to determine the dose that causes death and many other bizarre ways of testing.

On the other hand, natural, organic skincare products are completely cruelty-free and don’t need testing, since they don’t contain anything that is chemically produced.

You Will Save Money

Besides promoting your health and protecting the environment and animals’ lives, organic skincare products are also budget-friendly and help you save a lot of money in the long run.

We already mentioned that these products contain nourishing ingredients that enhance your skin’s health, unlike the chemical products that absorb into your skin and cause irritations, redness and acne. Even if these products are cheap, they impose the need to buy and explore more and more skincare products, since you’ll throw a great amount of them in the garbage after damaging your skin even more.

Besides being effective remedies for such conditions and damage-prone skins, organic skincare products are also more efficient since you won’t have to spend all your money and months trying to find which formula works best for your complexion.

So, do not hesitate to enrich your skincare routine with a couple of natural face care products. Not only your facial skin will be happier, but you’ll also contribute to keeping the environment and animals safe without spending a fortune.

I really admire those people that are ready to give up on most of their beauty products and live a zero-waste lifestyle in order to minimize their impact on the environment. But personally, I can’t imagine fitting my whole year’s worth trash into a mason jar. Still, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other things that we can all do to cut down the waste we produce. There are other, not so radical ways we can all try to lighten our environmental footprint when it comes to beauty regimes. This includes making better choices regarding the beauty products that we buy.

Switch Your Sunscreen

Most of us already know the importance of wearing sun protection on our face every day even if it’s cloudy outside. This is even more important for us living down under, as Australia have been ranked near the top of the skin cancer list. There are a few things that make for good sun protection – it should apply smoothly, without leaving a chalky residue and it should be scent-free. However, what is the best sunscreen for those that actually care for the environment? Well, there is one particular ingredient this item should not include in order to be environmentally-friendly and that is oxybenzone-free.

This ingredient is being added to traditional sunscreen lotions to convert the sun-burning causing UV rays into harmless heat on our skin. But once it heads down the drain into the water, it can damage our rivers, animals and plants. When you swim with sunscreen on, oxybenzone can seep into the ocean and decrease the coral’s defences against bleaching and damage their DNA. A natural sun protection face cream, on the other hand, that is free of oxybenzone, won’t cause damage to the coral reefs and aquatic life. That’s because instead of chemical absorbers, these rely on minerals to block the sun, like Zinc Oxide.

Apart from being good to coral reefs and marine life, mineral sunscreen lotions usually come in recyclable packaging (just make sure that you put the empty bottle into a recycling bin). Furthermore, natural sun protection is also better for your skin as these tend to also be free of parabens, phthalates and other harsh preservatives. They are gentle to the skin and packed with skin-caring ingredients such as olive oil, green tea extract and rosehip oil.

Stop Using Generic Wipes

No matter how convenient generic makeup wipes can be for taking off your make-up (as there is no need to use cleanser and water and create a mess around the sink) the mass use of wet wipes is causing a big problem for the environment. That’s because most of them are not biodegradable and can pile up in landfills and ultimately harm the planet. Furthermore, most of them also contain alcohol, preservatives and other chemicals which when disposed in nature can again cause a lot of environmental harm.

Well, if you like the convenience of the wipes, but you still want to partake in protecting the environment, just switch to other options that are safer. Biodegradable wipes, for instance, like the ones made from bamboo can break down naturally and can even be composted. By using biodegradable wipes, you can still clean your face quickly and easily whilst also helping create a brighter future for the environment.

Another option is to switch to make-up removal towels. These look like washcloths, except they are better. Make-up removal cloths are made of many small threads that can allow for more thorough cleaning. All you have to do I wet them with water and they can be used for both make-up removal and for exfoliating your face. They can be reused many times and once dirty, all you have to do is just put them in the washing machine.

Consider Singular Eye Shadows

If you like using eye shadows, then you probably you own a few eye-shadow palettes. However, you most likely use two to three shades more often than the rest. Your favourite colours may run up quicker than the others and when this happens you’ll probably just throw the whole palette only to buy an entire one once again. But plastic packages make up for 30% in our landfills according to the EPA. Therefore, you should really think about swapping big eye-shadow palettes for a precise singular products. By buying single shadows and sticking to the colours you love, you can once more contribute towards minimising your waste.
